Pilates and Yoga is a beautiful balance and each modality brings something different for the body to integrate

YOGA

At One Yoga Pilates we offer Yoga Flow and Yin Yoga

The form of Yoga you’re drawn to can depend on your physicality, energy levels or emotional state at any given time. Sometimes you may need a more energetic practice like a Yoga Flow class and at other times you may just need a Yin practice to deeply settle into your body.

YOGA FLOW

Yoga flow is based on Vinyasa yoga and links the asana postures through rhythmical movement and breath from one posture to the next. The rhythm of breath and movement brings vitality and warmth through the blood  and into the muscles and organs. The held stretches take warmth deeper into the muscles and allows the tissues to have space and time to open and rejuvenate at a deeper level.

YIN YOGA

Yin yoga is a meditative practice  designed to stretch connective tissue around the body and joints. It is a  passive practice involving variations of seated and supine poses held for 3 to 5 minutes, accessing deeper layers of fascia.  I like to think of it as my body’s way of de-stressing. It refreshes my body to go again! Anyone can do this practice. There is no right or wrong and there are no proper alignment rules. This practice is a wonderful balance to active forms of exercise and a great antidote for a stressful life!

PILATES

A full body exercise method.

Pilates focus is on breathing, alignment, core strengthening, spine mobility and improving co-ordination and balance. The core includes the entire trunk, which is the abdominals, hips, inner and outer thighs, and the back.  When your core is strong the body has strength and vitality. Students say that as they practice Pilates they begin to have more energy. They just feel better and aches and pains start to reduce especially back pain. Pilates will improve your posture, increase abdominal endurance and give you a total body workout. You will increase the mobility and strength in your spine giving you greater range of movement and less susceptibility to injury. Pilates is a great complement to other forms of fitness.

Ann has been my Pilates teacher for several years now... and has become an essential part of my life. Pilates has increased my flexibility and built up my core strength. Attending Ann’s class’s is not just about helping my body, but also about relaxing the mind, staying positive and feeling good even after a hard day.
